One day, I walked by to see my 10-month-old waltzing out of the little IKEA tent we got him, quite jolly, and holding his bottle to his mouth like it was second nature. Thing is, he had never done that before! He was shocked by my seeing him and he dropped the bottle.
He’s able to do this and hold feed himself the more we put the bottle in his hands, but he tends to pull his hands away when we gently tug on them. Often, I’ll make some beat box sounds and move his hands like it’s a dance, and then he doesn’t pull. Works for when he wants to roll over when we change his diaper, too. Dancing keeps him where we want him!
Now to self-feed his milk all the way, he just needs to understand the basics of gravity. Here’s an illustration of what he normally does, from an earlier post (it does soothe him!):
In other news, my son’s first Easter was full of joy and blessings. At our church, they had the First Annual Epic Easter Egg Hunt, which was like The Amazing Race meets Easter. Our son couldn’t do all of the activities (like “20 jumping jacks to earn an egg!”) but we still had fun. This was also the first time I had heard of Resurrection Eggs! Our friends’ kids were so funny in when they guessed what the eggs’ surprises meant (the pair of praying hands? “Clapping!” Anyone who’s seen the praying emoji could concur without the right context! 🙏👏)
My son obviously stuck the plastic eggs in his mouth, but also opted for a small piece of cement when seeing the thing during his very eye-level egg hunt. He got to march all around our friends’ deck and closely observe its painted wood grain. He saw their huge bookcase, too, and was thrilled! When he saw a toy lawnmower, he thought the back of the handle was hilarious.
Such a great Easter, and our hearts were so full and happy having shared it with such welcoming and loving brothers and sisters in Christ.
